Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her grandmother and mother. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder caused by word associations as a young teenager. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. She was a part of the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she wasn't a good fit. Ford decided to apply for the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get an acceptance on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford did not graduate until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991and appeared in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. But Tate was soon gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances that she incorporated into her show in 1996.
